Talent Management is a Business Strategy not a People Strategy
Talent management is more than a fad, it’s a vital part of how businesses succeed today. Gone are the days when managing employees was just about hiring and exiting. Now, it’s about finding the right people, helping them grow, and keeping them engaged and motivated.
Definitions
Before I begin, let me define what I mean with the help of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (or CIPD).
The CIPD define talent as “those individuals who can make a difference to organisational performance, either through their immediate contribution or in the longer term by demonstrating the highest levels of potential”.
The process of talent management is defined as “the systematic attraction, identification, development, engagement, retention and deployment of those individuals with high potential who are of particular value to an organisation. This may be through their high potential or because they fulfil critical roles.”
You may choose to use different definitions in your business, just ensure that everyone is in agreement so that you are all heading in the same direction.
